EMERGENCY PROTEST: SOLIDARITY WITH JENIN

Saturday 8 July 12 noon
Outside HSBC, 4, Robertson Street, Hastings TN34 1HW

Join us on Saturday to show your solidarity

We have watched in horror this week as Israeli armed forces launched an all out military assault on Jenin refugee camp. Twelve people were murdered, including four children, and hundreds injured.

We will show our solidarity and support for the people of Jenin. Please join us to make your voice heard and to mark your respect for the victims of this brutal military invasion. If you can, please wear black to honour the dead and grieving.

Thousands of Palestinians, many ethnically cleansed from the Galilee in 1948, have been forced again to flee their homes.

Israeli forces cut off the water, electricity and communications, destroyed vital infrastructure and homes, and targeted clinics and ambulances.

The Israeli military shot 16-year-old Abdulrahman Hardan in the head while he was standing in front of the Al-Amal Hospital.
This represented the largest invasion of a Palestinian city in the occupied West Bank in over 20 years and included unprecedented Israeli airstrikes on this densely populated area.

Four Children Killed

The four children that were murdered are: 16-year-old Abdulrahman Hasan Ahmad Hardan. The Israeli military shot him in the head while he was standing in front of the Al-Amal Hospital. 16 year old Mustafa Imad Ali Qassem was killed in an airstrike. Both 15 year old Majdi Arrawi and 17 year old Noureddine Marshoud were killed by Israeli snipers stationed on the rooftops of the refugee camp.

Freedom Theatre of Jenin Attacked

The Israeli military attacked the Freedom Theatre of Jenin where Palestinian families were seeking refuge.

We have a special respect and love for the Freedom Theatre - we hosted its spectacular play 'The Siege' in Hastings in 2015. The Freedom Theatre toured the UK performing their play at major cities Birmingham, Glasgow, Liverpool and London. As we know one member of the company we asked if they could visit Hastings - so they said yes, and performed a really memorable performance at St Mary in the Castle. We got to know them, and love what they do.

The Freedom Theatre trains young people as actors, stage managers, theatre technicians, photographers and film makers. The Theatre and its participants are often on the receiving end of Israeli brutality: last November 17-year-old Mahmoud Al-Sadi, Youth Trainer at the Theatre, was shot dead by the occupation forces when he was on his way to school. Source. As the statement asks: "When will these crimes end?"

Ahmed Tobasi sent this message from the Theatre on Monday. Ahmed played the 'tour guide' when the Theatre performed at St Marys. Message here.

We will be making a collection for the Freedom Theatre on Saturday.
