    Meeting with Professor David Miller

Thanks to everyone who came to our meeting with Professor Miller. This was a truly illuminating and thought-provoking talk by someone who has spent his academic life investigating lobby groups and their power in many areas including education, environmental policies, health provision, the Israel lobby and Islamophobia.

He gave a lecture of entirely new research on the Zionist movement and showed why it matters to us. Included in the talk was a section whereby Professor Miller highlighted the myriad of charities in the UK that fund the illegal settlements, i.e. organisations given tax breaks to support what under international law constitute war crimes.

This is a long read, but it gives a good account of the talk. Highly recommended! Full report.

    Sanctuary Festival

Thanks to everyone who came to Sunday's festival at the local museum. It was great to be part of such a friendly event, talking about Palestine (and lots of other things) for 6 hours.

We found a lot of interest in our forthcoming Swim With Gaza event - we're looking forward to large numbers of local people turning up in their swimming trunks on 26 August.

Thanks to Hastings Supports Refugees for such a well organised festival. And thanks to all our helpers who worked so hard in the heat.

    Protect the right to boycott

If this bill becomes law, public bodies will no longer be able to make their own decisions when it comes to purchasing or procuring from, or investing in companies complicit in Israel's war crimes.

The second reading of the bill will be in the House of Commons on Monday (3 July).

This is a useful 'write to your MP' tool from the PSC:

Gideon Levy: And Who Is Supposed to Protect the Palestinians?

In this article Gideon Levy writes "over three days last week, 35 pogroms have been carried out by settlers. Since the beginning of the year, around 160 Palestinians have been killed by soldiers..."

Have the Palestinians the right to defend themselves? "The invader is legitimate, and the one defending his life and property is a terrorist. The moral criteria are incomprehensible in their absurdity." Well worth a read: Article here.

Continuing forcible displacement and dispossession of Palestinian Christians

"There are many who are surprised to learn that Palestine has always been - and still is - the home of a vibrant Christian community. Sadly, there is a real risk that the presence of a Christian community in Palestine will soon come to an end." Article here.

The shocking truth behind the Baghdad bombings of 1950 and 1951

Avi Shlaim has uncovered proof that Zionist agents were responsible for targeting the Jewish community, forcing them to flee Iraq and settle in Israel. The article goes on to show that the Zionist movement and Israel have together intensified divisions between Arabs and Jews, Israelis and Palestinians, Hebrew and Arabic and Judaism and Islam. They have actively worked to erase an ancient heritage of "pluralism, religious tolerance, cosmopolitanism and coexistence."
