The film has been made by award-winning journalist and film documentary maker Medyan Dairieh. For nearly two decades, the filmmaker follows British activists campaigning against the arms industry starting at EDO, the company that previously used the site now occupied by L3Harris at Moulsecoomb. During 2025 Medyan returned to L3Harris and also visited General Dynamics in Hastings on several occasions. The film includes interviews with the protestors at both factories. There is an interview with Professor Stavriankis from Sussex University; and music by BuddBeginnings.
The film show will be followed by a discussion and question and answer session with Medyan Dairieh. More information to follow.
HASTINGS JEWS FOR JUSTICE FILM AND DISCUSSION EVENING
Sunday 14 June 6.15 - 8.45pm. Stade Hall, Hastings, TN34 3FJ. 'The event is free but you will need to give your name and email address at the door.'
Have You Got Questions About Gaza/The West Bank/Palestine/Israel? Hastings Jews for Justice (HJJ) will be showing two short films followed by small group discussions.
Sands of Sorrow, about the original Nakba made in 1950. The film was created to show 'the squalid living conditions in refugee camps, starving children, and emphasises the hopeless condition of the refugees.' A byline that, tragically, could have equally been written today, although it does also make very clear the dignity and what we now know as 'sumud' of those refugees.
The Palestine Laboratory illustrates how the dehumanisation of the Palestinian people over decades of a brutal occupation has been exploited for financial gain by Israel in its arms and surveillance industry. Jewish Australian journalist Antony Loewenstein investigates how cutting-edge military and surveillance technology is being used on Palestinians, before being marketed to international clients as "field-proven" and "battle-tested."
