Reminder of this Sunday's Online Meeting: Hastings Twinning with Al-Mawasi in Gaza
Sunday October 17 2021 09:00am (morning) London time
Please register to obtain the Zoom link for the meeting:

We will have a live link to Gaza to hear directly from people in Al-Mawasi about their lives and about the history of their community. All the contributions from Hastings and Al Mawasi will be simultaneously translated into English and Arabic to allow us to talk directly to each other and begin to build friendship between our two communities.

Find out more about Al-Mawasi's recently formed resilience committee and its work to build a community centre and support each other with health, education and work, after years of crushing deprivation and destruction under Israeli occupation and blockade.

The meeting will take place at 9am in the morning because the community has electricity cuts and internet connection problems later in the day.

Please share our Facebook event page. More information on our website.

One part of building links between our two communities could be to start learning each other's languages. One of our members has put together some basic phrases in Arabic.

    Information stalls

Our weekly information stalls are held every Saturday 12 to 2 in the Hastings town centre near Millets (weather permitting). Please come and say hello. There will be NO stall on Saturday 23 October.

    Books For Gaza

We delivered the books to the regional collection point for shipment to Gaza (after a 4 hour journey!). We met up at the destination with members of the Brighton and Hove branch of the PSC who also had a van full of books.

The Books for Gaza collection is to replenish the books destroyed when the Israeli military bombed the Samir Mansour bookshop which housed the largest collection of English literature in Gaza.

We estimate that we sent about 1,200 books donated by local people. Thanks to everyone who contributed and who helped in the sorting and packaging. We'll keep everyone updated with the progress of the books - we believe that they will total about 100,000.

Sally Rooney - support for the Cultural Boycott
Author Sally Rooney's decision not to work with an Israeli publisher which boasts that it publishes and markets books for Israel's Ministry of Defence generated uproar from the Israel lobby and much of the corporate media.

She is one of hundreds of artists and cultural figures who signed "A Letter Against Apartheid" after Israel's 11-day bombing of Gaza in May during which 260 Palestinians were killed.

Stop the JNF Campaign: Saturday 6th November Protest

The JNF (Jewish National Fund) is regarded as a pillar of Israeli apartheid. It has participated in ethnic cleansing, destruction of property and depopulation of villages: these are war crimes. The JNF has been granted observer status by the UN to the COP26 (Climate Change Conference of the Parties). This year's conference is taking place 31 October - 12 November.

The organisation Stop the JNF Campaign is part of the COP26 Coalition Global Day of Action for Climate Justice. Protests will be taking place across the country. Details to follow of actions in Hastings.

14 million US Christians support Palestinian rights

14.87 million US Christians belong to a church that has taken actions such as: divesting from specific companies that profit off of Israel's human rights abuses; implementing a rights-conscious investment screen; supporting the strategic boycott of Israeli products; or calling for an end to US military aid to Israel. Google and Amazon workers demand their employers cut all ties with the Israeli military

Google and Amazon workers have condemned the signing of Project Nimbus, a $1.2bn contract to provide cloud services for the Israeli military and government. "This technology allows for further surveillance of and unlawful data collection on Palestinians, and facilitates expansion of Israel's illegal settlements on Palestinian land." We are Google and Amazon workers. We condemn Project Nimbus.

PayPal: End discriminatory policy against Palestinians

While PayPal has allowed Israelis, including those living in illegal settlements, to use its services, it has denied Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip access to its platform for several years.

    Fundraiser: Key to Return

After a trip with ICAHD to Palestine in 2018, Norma Cohen wrote the draft of a play based on her first ever visit to the region. It's called Key to Return. This is a fundraiser to develop the play in the hope that it will tour nationally. Key to Return Fundraiser.
