WORKERS TAKING ACTION FOR PALESTINE

Organising Meeting: Wednesday 3 December 7.30pm. Isabel Blackman Centre, Winding Street.

Across the world workers are taking action against Israel's genocide in Gaza. Dock workers and airline workers have refused to load weapons bound for Israel. Millions took part in protest strikes across Italy and beyond, when Israel captured the Gaza flotilla of boats carrying aid to Palestinians.

Here in the UK we have also seen inspiring actions by workers. Bar staff in Glasgow successfully forced their employers at the Stand Comedy Club and the Glasgow Film Theatre to stop selling all products from the BDS boycott list by threatening a 'service boycott' - workers just refusing to serve these products. The union called it the 'serve solidarity' campaign and have now won support for the boycott in numerous other companies.

University staff at Kings College London are currently balloting for strike action to defend the academic freedom of staff who have faced harassment because of their public support for Palestine. They are also demanding complete divestment of the university from companies supporting Israel.

Teachers unions have been pushing schools to stop engaging with military companies arming Israel which, combined with parent opposition, has led to numerous schools in the Hastings area alone breaking links with the local arms company, General Dynamics.

Health workers have also been campaigning to expose and oppose NHS links with Palantir, a global IT company which boasts of a 'strategic partnership' with the Israeli military.

Workers across all sectors are campaigning for their pensions to be divested from all Israeli companies and arms dealers, and in numerous councils and many other workplaces they are winning this demand.

From shops and pubs, to schools and hospitals, workers have the power to take direct action in solidarity with the people of Gaza - the illegal occupation relies on funding and support from all over the world and we can play a part in cutting off that support.

If you want to discuss how you can take action in your workplace, or help us reach out to workers across Hastings to invite them to do the same, come along to a special organising meeting about Palestine Solidarity at Work on Wednesday December 3rd at 7.30pm in the Isabel Blackman Centre, Winding St, Hastings TN34 3AT.

The meeting is hosted by the Hastings branch of Unite the Union with the Hastings and District Palestine Solidarity Campaign. Everyone is welcome.
