Israeli Apartheid: Reality & Resistance

Saturday 2 July 3pm. White Rock Hotel, Hastings TN34 1JU

A chance to find out how Amnesty International has come to the conclusion that Israel is an apartheid state.

This is a joint meeting between Hastings and Rye PSC and Amnesty International Kent and East Sussex Network. Our speakers are Garry Ettle from Amnesty International and SOAS Palestine Society President Yara Derbas.

HRPSC Chair Katy Colley said: 'This is an important opportunity to learn why Israel stands accused of this crime against humanity. Bring friends, family, neighbours, loose acquaintances - let's discover the truth together.'

Following the talks there will be a Q&A, complimentary refreshments and a chance to learn more about the work of both organisations. On Saturday there will be disability access with the provision of a ramp.

In pictures: Palestinian women and anti-colonial resistance in the 1930s

Women have played a leading role in the Palestinian struggle for over a hundred years against both the British colonial project and the Israeli occupation.

The first Arab Women's Congress was established in 1929, with the two most prominent causes being opposition to the Balfour Declaration of 1917 and Zionist colonialism to Palestine.

It was known that many Palestinian women fought and died alongside men during the Great Revolt against the British administration.

Pictured left is a demonstration held in Jerusalem in the 1930s led by a group of schoolgirls holding a banner that reads: "No dialogue or negotiations until the termination of the Mandate."
