EMERGENCY IN AL MAWASI - DISTRESS CALLS FROM OUR FRIENDS IN GAZA AS ISRAEL'S BOMBING CAMPAIGN INTENSIFIES
We have received distress calls from Al Mawasi today as they come under increasing attack and people in Rafah as well as Khan Yunis are once more forced to evacuate there.
Our friends have been doing everything they can to stay alive and support the community during this genocide but now it seems conditions have become unbearable.
N***, our main contact, left a series of messages this morning when she heard that a bakery in Khan Yunis was bombed and people killed there. Her colleague A*** was working in their community bakery at the time and she could no longer get hold of him. We speak to them both regularly and it was very upsetting for everyone here to get this message. For a time this morning, we were all terrified that he had been killed.
Now, we have been told that the bakery that was hit was not the one that the funds we raised had helped to build and A*** is safe for now. But the situation there is disastrous. Not a single aid truck has crossed into Gaza for a month, meaning everyone there is being starved and deprived of fresh water, fuel and medicine. Rather than celebrating Eid, they are in mourning, remembering the people who they've lost, reliving the trauma together.
Right now, the situation is very dangerous. N**** says that planes are hovering all the time, very close to the ground. Her son was in the street and felt the plane was so close that it might hit him.
"We are terrified and exhausted from it all," she said. "I still have a chest injury from the beginning of the war, but I keep going. It's all too much pressure. I can't talk to anyone but us about it but you, my friends.
"Please pray for our safety, and send whatever help you can. The need is so great right now, and increasing all the time. We need to think of ways to cook food for the displaced people, and how to help these masses coming now. We want to do some activities for Eid in the area, but I am afraid as it might not now be safe for the children to be in the streets."
Our friends, like everyone in Gaza, are frightened beyond imagining. They have been carrying this load for far too long and we are all appalled and feel helpless while the people who we have come to know and love are being slaughtered and starved.
We demand action from our representatives.
Helena Dollimore, speak out! This genocide can only continue because of the silence of our politicians and refusal to hold Israel to account.
