A quick reminder about our next meeting, a presentation by Doctor Khader Abu-Hayyeh. He lived in Lydda (now Lod) in 1948 when the Israeli 89th Commando Battalion carried out widespread massacres including the machine-gunning of 80 people sheltering in the Dahmash Mosque. Khader fled with his family, forced to walk miles during the summer heat, an event referred to as the 'Lydda death march.'
Khader is now a doctor in West Kent. His presentation will include an analysis of the solutions available today: 2 state solution; 1 state solution; annexation to Jordan and Egypt, i.e. pre-1967; Continuous occupation; War.

Thanks to everyone who supported our replica Apartheid Wall event in the town centre, 3rd May. The plan was to raise awareness of the daily restrictions to the freedom of movement endured by the Palestinians. We gave out a "Permit to Pass" leaflet approaching either end giving the basic facts, with more detailed fact sheets at our information stall. We were quite amazed that we were able to keep the wall in place for 45/50 minutes before the police asked us to move it.
The event was a great success, so much so that we are hoping to use it again in other parts of the town, although the problem we have is transporting it - has anyone a vehicle we can borrow?
