Friday 17 April - Palestinian Prisoners' Day

There are approximately 5,000 Palestinian political prisoners in Israeli jails. These include:

  • 180+ children
  • 430 administrative detainees jailed without charge or trial
  • 700 sick and ill prisoners - 200 with chronic and serious diseases that place them at even greater risk should COVID-19 spread throughout the prisons. Already 12,758 people in Israel have tested positive for the COVID-19 virus, and 142 have lost their lives. If this spreads to Israel's jails, this could be a death sentence.

Israel is the only country in the world where children are systematically tried in military courts and subjected to 'cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment or punishment.' Source: UNICEF.

    Samidoun: Palestinian Prisoner Solidarity Network

Samidoun has an excellent website. It lists a range of actions that we can all get involved in. It includes BDS (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions) information about Hewlett-Packard and G4S, both complicit in the incarceration of Palestinian political prisoners in Israeli jails. Videos: The power of the Israel lobby

Two undercover films exposing the Israel lobby both in the UK and in the US. They show how a member of the Israeli UK embassy is prepared to 'take down' MPs; how Israel's supporters manufacture cases of 'anti-semitism, and destroy the careers of student activists.
