Reminder of our next meeting:

The Ethnic Cleansing Of Palestine with speaker Salma Karmi-Ayyoub.

Saturday 13 May 14.00 - 16.00 / 2 - 4pm. White Rock Hotel (opposite pier), Hastings TN34 1JU.

Salma will be talking about the fundamental incompatibility of Israel as it is currently constituted with the rights of Palestinians as enshrined in international law. Also, how Israel was established and how its basic laws and policies ensure the perpetuation of an on-going Nakba ("Catastrophe") against the Palestinians.

Article in this week's Hastings Online Times.

Our usual weekly information stall will be at the earlier time 11.00 'til 13.00 on the 13th May.

Vigils and demonstrations in support of the hunger strikers.

A day of international solidarity took place throughout Europe last Saturday. Over 1500 Palestinian political prisoners held in Israel jails, many without charge are on hunger strike to protest at their unlawful and cruel treatment. This includes the use of torture during interrogation, solitary confinement, numerous cases of gross medical negligence, alongside the routine denial of family visits.

Palestinian beer from Taybeh.

Unfortunately hard to get hold of in the UK,Taybeh beer is available as Taybeh Golden, Taybeh Amber, Taybeh Light, Taybeh Dark and Taybeh Non-Alcoholic. Short video explaining some of the problems faced brewing beer under the occupation: Beer in the Palestinian West Bank.

In addition to Taybeh, there is the more recently introduced Shepherds Beer from Birzeit Brewery near Ramallah. This was the reaction when a bar in Haifa started serving Shepherds beer - calls from Israeli racists to boycott the bar because it's subsidising the 'enemy.' "You support the enemy and are proud of it! You're the lowest of the low!" ranted one. Article here and here.

Annual Open Shuhada St. Campaign

As part of this campaign, we placed a sentrybox in the centre of Hastings, distributed information about Shuhada Street in Hebron.

For 23 years Shuhada Street has been almost entirely closed to Palestinians. While illegal Israeli settlers move freely and carry arms, Palestinians face checkpoints, humiliation, severe restrictions on freedom of movement, arrests, vicious attacks and abuse by Israeli settlers.

Hebron has born the brunt of Israel's increased violence, attacks and murders against Palestinians (many are children): the number killed by the Israelis since October 2015 within the closed area and surrounding it had risen to 22 people.

'Youth Against Settlements' was able to publish photos we took on the day (above left) along with information from other events throughout the world.

'Is Criticism of Israel Anti-Semitism?

Thanks to everyone who came to the meeting 'Is Criticism of Israel Anti-Semitism?' Presented by a local member of 'jews for justice for palestinians' jfjfp

We looked at the fundamental differences between Judaism and Zionism and the misuse of anti-semitism by Israel and its supporters in their attempt to quash all legitimate criticism of Israel. It was noted that there are approximately 20 million Christian Zionists in the USA, more than the total population of Jews worldwide who are certainly not all Zionists.
